The Philippines is an archipelagic nation of more than seven thousand islands located in southeast Asia. It lies in the western Pacific Ocean, with Taiwan directly north and the Celebes Sea and Borneo to the south. The Philippines is divided into three main island groups: Luzon, which is the largest; the Visayas in the middle; and Mindanao which is southernmost.
The temperature is generally warm, with two seasons: wet and dry. Coastal and lowland areas are usually hot and humid, while the mountainous regions can get brisk. Throughout the country, the summer months of March to May are the hottest. June to October brings the monsoon season. November to February, dry and relatively cool, is the best time to visit.
