A natural paradise, the Calamianes appeals to both the beach bum and the adventurer.
The island group offers some of the best wreck diving in the world, due to the high concentration of Japanese vessels that sank in shallow waters during World War II. Even pots and pans can still be seen in the galley of the Irako Maru, a Japanese refrigeration ship. Snorkeling is also excellent throughout the region.
An unusual side trip is the Calauit Game Preserve & Wildlife Sanctuary, where threatened animals imported from Kenya now roam freely across the 3400 hectare island. Zebra and giraffe sightings are not uncommon.
